CBC Radio recently posted an article about robots in the workplace, and it made me ponder my perception of robotics a little bit. They are not necessarily the andriod-like creatures of boundary-pushing science (and science fiction 😊), nor an invasive replacement for human jobs. They are a tool. A tool to help us do our jobs better, faster and with less risk. And, like so many tools, they can be leased.
So, I thought I would share a couple of the upsides of leasing a robot.
For example, the robot is a one-time expense you can lease over time. Whereas an employee is paid every year, hopefully with periodic increases. Also, a leased robot does not require employer contributions for CPP, etc. Please do not get me wrong. I don’t want to see robots taking away jobs but as the article clearly states… “they’re not all coming for our jobs”.
Perhaps think about leasing this way…. you wouldn’t pay your receptionist 3 years in advance, would you? It’s the same for equipment that works for you. You pay as it performs.
We have seen a recent uptick in businesses looking to lease fitness equipment. And they aren’t gyms!
Why you ask? Because they have extra space and their staff have indicated that would like an on-site workout room.
I would like to commend these everyday companies as they promote the value of regular exercise. Not only for the physical benefits, but also for stress relief, better sleep and a calmer approach to problems. They understand the benefits of getting up from that desk and moving your body!
If this is something you would like to consider for your business, just give us a shout.
It’s not very often I get to actually operate a piece of machinery that we have leased to a client. But this week was special. Here I am loading chocolate bars into a “packaging machine” we leased to the chocolate factory owned by Master Chocolat! Such fun.
There must be a business out there somewhere that needs to lease a Ferrari??!!
No, a Molok isn’t akin to an ancient, hard shelled creature from the deep. Moloks are a very modern, deep collection, waste management solution available to large property owners, condo associations, retail centres and many other areas where waste management is an issue. There are many benefits to managing waste and recycling with Moloks including saving space, minimal odors and the ability to hold much more garbage, compost and recycling than traditional bins.
Priority Leasing Inc. is able to provide lease financing for Moloks to corporate building owners, condo associations and anywhere recycling and waste management are a needed in a commercial environment.
If you or your organization would like to learn more about the mighty Molok, the Calgary connection is Laurie Courtereille, at Underground Disposal Systems ltd. To learn more about the mighty Molok, give Laurie a call at 403-870-1879.

A very good friend of mine, and fellow Rotarian, has allowed Priority Leasing Inc. to be a distributor of re-usable, medical quality masks with N95+ disposable filters. Actually, you could fit it with any filter material you like using the provided template. You can even get reusable, washable filters, but the disposable n95 filters are very inexpensive … and you would need a tiny weeny little washing machine for these 2” x 2” European made squares.
This partnership came about because of our purchase of Dental Leasing Options two summers ago. When we at Priority Leasing saw a demonstration of how this mask works, we realized it was the perfect fit (no pun intended) for the medical/dental market.
These masks were designed and are manufactured in Alberta. The company, based out of Airdrie, is called Breathe Safely Alberta. (breathesafelyalberta.com)
How is this mask different than others? It is adjustable and fits to your head and headgear. It SEALS over your nose and mouth making it more of a respirator than a mask. This video, https://youtu.be/7hYek_Wvb7I, gives you a good look at the mask and shows you how to assemble it.
Here is a wee snippet from the website about “testing” of the filters and certification:
How do I know these filters were tested correctly?
These were done by the highly reputable firm Nelson Laboratories in the USA. This company does testing work for Health Canada and the USA government, including for NIOSH certification. While our filters are not currently NIOSH certified, we have designed and manufactured our respirators and filters to meet or exceed the standards required to achieve this certification. Our testing was performed in compliance with US FDA good manufacturing practice (GMP) regulations 21 CFR Parts 210, 211 and 820. All test method acceptance criteria were met.
These masks are applicable everywhere. If part of what you do requires you to be in a crowd (eg: lots of flying for business), check out this amazing mask. For more details and a chance to see the mask, email us at Sales@n95safe.ca

My colleague, Paul, over at Trust Capital USA, recently wrote an article outlining the benefits of leasing dump trucks. He passed it on to me, and I would like to share some of his thoughts with you.
According to Paul, “Leasing a dump truck can become a good alternative to traditional financing from bank or credit institutions and can provide you with complete ease and safety.”
He presents 5 main arguments in favour of leasing:
It can be difficult to meet the credit requirements of a traditional loan — especially for start-up businesses. Being denied by the banks, or being strapped with a large interest rate are potential drawbacks to the traditional route.
Professional equipment leasing and financing companies are adept at commercial leasing; the process is uncomplicated and efficient.
Leasing expensive, heavy equipment, such as dump trucks, reduces financial volatility; you don’t need to take on debt to procure a lease. In addition, obtaining a lease is not affected by your credit score. Professional financing groups can approve your application without any barrier.
Dump truck fleets are expensive. Even if you have sufficient capital to purchase, leasing, instead of buying, allows you to retain that capital and have it available for any emergencies that could arise.
Leasing of a big-sized dump truck can become a gainful venture. Income generated by use of the equipment can easily be in excess of the lease payments.
Whatever your credit score, whatever your goals, a professional equipment leasing company can serve your needs productively.

I am excited to let you know that I have become a new Rotarian! This doesn’t mean I have given up my Canadian citizenship, or requested a new passport. But I am now a member of an elite, worldwide organization that has the funds, the energy and the connections to make a change on a global scale.
The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self”. I believe this creates a strong, very recognizable difference between Rotary and other networking clubs. The goal in Rotary is not to promote you or your business, per se, but to meet other like-minded, business professionals who want to serve their community and the world. But make no mistake, business does get done. Quietly. Casually. Fairly.
In summary, here’s what excited me about Rotary:
The opportunity to make new friends with like-minded business professionals
Becoming involved in local and international projects that stir my soul
Access to world travel.
If you’d like to check it out, come for lunch on me! Our group meets Thursdays at the Stampede Grounds.
